Tuesday Treats and 'nips and Stuff

Yes, Mom, I see the treat. (She photoshopped the red circle around it.) I'm considering it. Give me a minute. You just gave me my sliced turkey, so what is this new offering?

Oh, a left over turkey crumble on top of a feta cheese crumble? Hmmm....oh, and that cheese fell on the floor from what you were eating? Don't I feel special...

I'll come down and look at it.

Okay, Mom, I chewed it a little. You can have it back if you want.

But...these 'nips are good! I like to eat them.

That's enough chewing and licking and scratchies for now. I'm hungry (but not for that worthless treat, and that better be gone).

Gotta have water first. See my tongue?

Kibbles are nice.

But you could refresh my gooshy stinky goodness food.

Basically, I'm feeling well fed, though, Mom. Pretty good job. Time for a snooze.

Hehehe...Zilla got a Bath

While I was at home ~~sleeping~~ working hard,

my mom and her sister Sharon and niece Marilyn took my cousin Zilla for a bath at Pet Spaw. You can wash your own pet there, or they'll do it for you. Marilyn scrubbed up Zilla and then blowed her dry while brushing her all fluffy.

Zilla was good, but she was not pleased about the whole ordeal.

She had knots behind her ears that had to be brushed out.

Seeing her annoyed makes me ~~laugh~~ feel a little bad for her.

When she was all prettied up, she got to wear her fairy princess costume.

I think I'm prettier in pink.

Right, Mom?

Eating Station

When my cousin, the woofie Zilla stayed here before, my food and water were moved from the floor up to the desk where she couldn't get at them.

Now I sometimes don't even get out of bed to eat!

But I have to get up for my water.

I like to jump at warp speed up to the desktop.

There I can bathe, dry off, and get really warm by the lamp.

Do I look glamorous in the glow of the light?

First Snow

Know what? We finally had the first snow of the season. It stuck to grass and trees, but not on the hard surfaces.

This is my response to snow: curl up in the heat of the lamp on top of the desk.

...or a nap or two in my box.

There's no need to go out and inspect that snow. Me and my mom are ready for it to be gone. We both think snow is an annoying mess, even if it's pretty for a little while.

It's My Gotcha Day!

Jack and I were gotcha'd from Fancy Cats 4 years ago. Jack went over the Rainbow Bridge last July. We were litter mates.

This is how close we sat sometimes. See how little I am?

When I came to my furrever home here, I was terrified. I jumped right into a box that had a paint can on one side and hid. Mom would jiggle the box now and again to see if I was still okay. I would growl. Then I gradually moved into the little box above with the towel curtains around me.

Now I run the place. My mom loves how I look like a kitten.

She says I have a sweet and pretty adult kitten face.

But I am feisty, too. Jack used to tease me by chasing me and giving me the bitey.

But I could put it to him!

Mostly I like to be peaceful, though, and gentle.

I have so much gratitude to everyone who got me to my happy home.

House Guest

We have a house guest. Mom is puppy-sitting.

I'm staying in my box on the desk a lot.

When I first met Zilla.....

.....I wasn't thrilled.

Zilla (full name Godzilla Dubois) is a 6-month old Pomeranian belonging to my mom's niece Marilyn. So she's my cousin.

Okay she's cute, but she sure does bounce a lot! She gets very excited when she sees me.

I still think staying in or close to my box is my best bet. Mom has been taking me over to the bed for cuddles, though. Zilla is afraid to jump up on it.

She sleeps by Mom's feet, while I sleep and eat up here at the desk.

Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone!

I am thankful for so many things.

I am happy that I have my health back, and good food to eat.

I am thankful for soft places to rub my head and get pets and sleep.

I'm so, so thankful for my mom who rescued me and takes care of me and loves me to pieces every day.

You're thankful for me, too, Mom? I know you love me.

And I'm thankful for all of you, my blog buddies and furriends. You've helped me and mom get through our loss of Jack this year, and through my infection this month. We hope you get to eat lotsa turkeys!

My Diagnosis

The tests are all in. The vet says I probably just had an infection, not a really bad one, but since I'm older it hit me hard. I'm 100% better now, though. Just waiting for my leg fur to grow back. Mom says she can tell I'm all well 'cause I wiggle and push her away with my paws so much when she is giving me the rest of the antibiotic.

Yes, I'm eating lots to get my weight back up.

And keeping myself groomed.

Now I'm ready for a snooze in my box.

Thankful Thursday

I'm so thankful because...

...yesterday I was at the vet all day, poked and probed, feeling sick, and I had to come home with a catheter in my leg and wear a cone sometimes! Awkward!

See? Mom took the cone off most of the night, and she laid by me and held my paw. The vet had not been able to diagnose my problem, but some more tests are due in to see if I have a an infection or maybe a gastrointestinal issue. I started eating a little. Today I went back to the vet and got some more fluids and the thingy took out of my arm, so no more cone. And I'm eating better.

I'm hoping I'm going to be all better soon. Thanks for thinking about me, everybody.

I'm Still Here...but I'm not Feeling Good

I'm hiding under the bed 'cause I don't feel good. Sometimes I let Mom hold me for a while, but then I want to hide again. I don't know what's wrong, or how to tell what I feel. I don't want to eat, I mostly want to be hiding, but I'm not having a sick tummy or walking funny or anything.

Mom, get the flashy box outta here! I'm hiding.

Baby's mom here:

I don't know what is going on with Baby. I was asleep for a long time because of the fatigue I've had with my own sickness the past couple of weeks. I have the shingles. (Cats cannot catch the chicken pox virus from humans.) At some point during my long sleep Baby became ill, injured, or deeply distressed in some way. There is no obvious cause for her behavior. I will take her to the vet as soon as I can.

Thanks to all our blog friends who have been wondering where we were and saying hi. We've just been on a break, and then having this and that happen.

Friday is about Floods

First I want you to see where my box is. See me? My box is in a cubby in my mom's desk, so I can be tucked away safely right beside her.

I am in the box a lot lately and not outside because it is raining, raining, raining for days! (See my vishus teeth? You can biggify the picture by clicking it.)

I am dry and protected in here.

All this rain comes from Tropical Storm Lee, and there is still maybe some more to come. Our town has some flooding. Lots of areas around Washington, DC are also flooded. Mom wants you to know that she did not take the flood pictures that follow. They are from news sites on the interwebs, like the Fairfax Connector and Reston Patch.

This is a commuter lot, and some of those cars got all covered in icky, dirty water.

Streets flooded because the storm drains couldn't keep up with the amount of rain.

This is runoff trying to happen at one of Reston's lakes.

Normally this stream is just a little babbling brook. Not now! It became a river.

I'm glad I'm not here. I would be swept away. Plus, trees are falling because of the rain and thunderstorms. Lots of major roads and highways closed earlier today and some school systems are shut down. Mom doesn't even want to let me out back when the rain does stop for a bit. She's afraid branches will fall off the trees and hit my little head. Let's hope our sun comes back Sunday like it's supposed to.

*Note: I am almost done taking my pills and I am feeling good. I think I am over whatever was bothering me. Thanks for your purrs everyone.

Medicines for Me

Mom knows she's been slacking on posts and visits, but we're still here. We've had this and that going on...Mom was taking an online class, but it was too time consuming so she dropped doing that for now. There was an earthquake and aftershocks. There was Hurricane Irene, and we didn't get damage, but the winds gusted all night and we had no power for almost a day. And Mom's parents were gone, so she had to look after their house next door and bring all the outside stuff in, and then back out again.

With losing Jack in July, and all of this house shaking and blowy storms going on, I got stressed. I've been peeing more, and I peed twice on the bed. So.....

I gots medicine pills to take in case I've got a pee infection. If the medicines don't help after 10 days, then the v-e-t is coming to my house to do things...sounds no good to me, so I hope my pills work.

These are just mine, but I don't take so many as Jack did, or Mom does.

When Mom puts a pill in my mouth, I kind of look like this.

And I want to spit it out, but she sticks it way in, so it's already down and swallowed.

I shake my head a little to get rid of the taste, then Mom sets me by a fresh bowl of stinky goodness.

She says I'm a really great pill taker and the best girl ever.

Mouse and Garden Monday

I gotted this mouse that was in my house. Mom made me take it outside. I carried it in my mouth a minute, and then put it down. Mom thought it was deaded. She took a picture. I was looking for it (I was excited and confused a little) and it woke up and came all alive. Then it ran away. I was looking all over for it and talking to Mom about it for a long time.

I found a place to relax outside then.

What, Mom? You want to shut the door so no more mousies come in? You want me to come in?!

I'm not in any hurry to come in.

I'm walking away from you now.

I've got some words for Mom today.

First, keep the paparazzi away when I am doing my night hunting. What mouse is going to come around for a photo shoot?

Next, it's been a full week since we've been to the blog. Spitty had to remind us in the comments of our last post. You are being very lazy, Mom. Well, I do want everyone to know the v-e-t lady called and my blood tests are good and I am very healthy. And I know you've been out of the house more lately on account of you don't have to be there to medicate Jack at certain times. But don't neglect me! Actually, you've been okay there. I have been dominating your lap and time when you're home. But that's no excuse. You can reach over me to type, carefully, just don't ruffle my furs.

Know what? Last night I surprised Mom with something she didn't know I could do. I caught a mouse and I killed it dead. And I don't have front claws. All by mouth. Yes, I have wild skills. I am a mighty mouse huntress.

Know what else? I took my fresh kill into my fort and Mom got a leaf, grabbed it by the foot, and tossed it over the fence. That was dinner, Mom! Sheesh.

Friday: Pry Day, and Before & After

This lady and this guy came to my house today. They were the same ones that took Jack away! So I was suspicious. Know what they did to me? Squeezed at my tummy, weighed me (5 lbs. 14 ounces) looked in my ears, nose and all kinds of places, put metal things up to me, clipped my claws...a lot of prying, people! Mom says they're the home vet beans. Know what they did at the last part? I got stuck 3 times with stickery things. For bloods. And for medicines so other animals can't make me sick.

But I was so good. And when they left, I myow-myowed so loud to go outside! I mean, I deserved a good bath in the heat. Did I go out? No. Mom had to rush out somewhere. I jumped up on the bed near her. "Uh, me-ow", I said, "Here! Are you seeing me!" Nothing.

So she left, and I just tried to go away to my happy place.

But now I'm over that, and want you to see that my home has changed a little in appearance lately. Compare if you will (click on pictures to biggify):

The bathroom had pee papers, and now has a snazzy rug and new box for me, my size.

The pee papers are gone from the side of the bed. So are the piles of blankies on the bed in case of "accidents". You can see the bedspread! It's clean and there's space now and no pee smell.

The towels and papers and many bowls are also gone, and now it is just my mat and 3 dishes. But I do miss Jack laying over there, always ready for a drink. I think he's drinking from gentle waterfalls and babbling brooks over the Rainbow Bridge now. Don't you?

Wordy Wednesday: The Gift

Here's a good memory of Jack from his last day (in which I accidentally gave him a gift):

I was at my chipsmunk watching-by-the-fence-bottom place. There comes that chipsmunk! So I started chasing it. Know what it did? It ran into the house. My house. I started scrambling after it, lickety-split, and Jack was right there, only he couldn't scramble, just follow me and have big, excited, "so happy to play with a live thing" face.

I chased that rascal all around, and finally under the dresser near the bathroom, and there I lost track and interest, and so did Jack on account of we lost track...and interest. Mom was all, like, "Guys you gotta find it and get it to go back outside. Great! What am I supposed to do now?" (I guess to her it wasn't a gift.)

Then she heard it in the bathroom and thought she could throw a tupperware thingy over it in there and trap it and get it back outside. But it was fast and she kept getting all scairt it would run up her pajama legs, so she would jump up on the toilet seat. Jack was out in the big room all ready for anything, just listening.

Then that thing squeezed itself under the bathroom door. It ran so fast to the patio door, and Jack was right there as it let out a big squeak and squirted out the door and back under the fence.

That was Jack's last big fun. That was my last gift to Jack. I love my brother forever.

Missing the Mancat Monday

We are so thankful that, even though we lost Jack, we still have each other.

We are also so thankful for the outpouring of support and love from our blog buddies, and we will try to get to you individually soon. As you can imagine, we have felt kind of bad, and we've had a lot of clean up to do. But we are beginning to rally and recover. Our love and sincerest thanks to all of you. Your words have meant the world to us.

Rest in Peace, Jack

Jack is no longer with us. With a heavy heart, I sent him over The Rainbow Bridge today. He went on top of his beloved bed, with his soft blankey underneath him, right in his own home.

We are glad that Jack is now free from pain and disability, but we will be greatly missing him for a long time. Baby is especially confused right now and needs and purrayers and prayers and purrs and paw power to help her cope. Thank you all for your wonderful support so far as I have dealt with lots of emotions.

Update on Jack

Jack's health is declining, and not only do I worry about his suffering, but I also have to deal with a host of issues around his care, and I don't have help. So Jack and I are both growing very weary, and, at times, short of temper, though love always shines back through.

Jack is having problems using the litter box, or even getting there. More often I am having to snap him out of mental confusion. I have to bathe "certain" parts of him daily. His latest problem is that the way he is drinking from his dish, laying down style, keeps his chin and neck wet. The fur fell out in clumps. I have been wiping down the area with antibiotic wipes twice daily, per the vet. There are so many medicines, etc. around his care (IV fluids, insulin, pills, blood glucose tests, hygiene) that the poor guy cowers and looks highly suspicious whenever I approach him. On the bright side, and this is a testament to Jack's incredible will to live, he is eating and passing it through okay, and resting okay, and seems relatively pain-free. I don't get this, as his belly is so swollen with the cancerous tumor.

Finally today I made a tough decision. I called the mobile vet, the one who makes house calls, and laid out the scenario with Jack. I told her I didn't know if his "time" has come. She agreed that he needs to be assessed and will be coming Monday evening for a "quality of life" consultation.

Please keep praying and purraying for Jack, and that the best decision can be made on his behalf.

What, Mom? You want me to tour the backyard today? It's not Thursday! Okay, I'm flexible.

Well, the rose bush is loving the rain and has made a nice yellow rose.

These pretty purple flowers came up, too.

The hostas and the little tree are thriving.

The clover is going crazy in this planter! Somebody is hoping for good luck, maybe?

Now, over in this area I have to check for the introoder chipsmunk. It dashes in and out of here quick and it squeaks! Mom says it's cute.

I'm listening...

...and waiting...

...very patiently, but I don't hear it right now.

Know why I'm looking up over here?

In that tree behind me, that also hangs over the yard, introoder squirrels and fevvers land. They chatter at me. Like they own the place! Sometimes I meow really loud and scary back at them. I'm a feisty little girl. Know where else the squirrels get to?

Up on the balcony. If you look close, you will see one evil introoder hanging off the bird feeder in the upper left, and the other feasting on bird seed in the lower right.

See me over in front of that chair keeping an eye on them? (Biggify pictures to see better.) Those introoder squirrels have a lot of nerve!

Toes Tuesday

I use my toes to balance right on the edge of tables and stuff.

Mom has nicknamed my toes, or paws, if you will. Because they are so little and round, she calls them "snow buttons" or "sugar buttons". (Please note that I also have my tail curled perfectly for Tuesday.)

Jack Update

How am I doing, you may ask? Well, I am still contented with my life. I love being alive! Even with my sicknesses and broken down parts and having to take medicines, I still want to live. Everyone says I amaze them with my strong will and life energy.

But now I am getting more and more of what Mom calls "bedraggled". It's hard to groom, and I bite at Mom if she tries. My chin and neck are wet from me laying and drinking out of my dish, and I get matted fur a little bit there. My butt...well, I'm not going there. But I hate those quick sink baths! I still eat great, can use my steps to get on the bed, make it 50% of the time to a litterbox instead of the newspapers (or, if I get confused, some odd spot), and I get "happy good morning boy" pets while laying on Mom's tummy when she wakes up. I'm not giving up yet!

Tabby Tongue, Tail, Tummy, and Toes Tuesday

Well, my tabby is very obvious on the top of my little head. I have 5 stripes! I was asleep in one of my boxes in this picture.

Jack has some nice markings on his back leg. He has a good bulls eye on each of his sides, too. Problem is, with his diseases, he doesn't groom much anymore, so it's hard to see them. He bites Mom hard if she tries! He's got really sensitive sides on account of his swelly belly from his big tumor.

I use my tongue to lick off crumbs when I eat my kibbles.

Look at my tail. Yes, it's got nice stripies. But the cool thing is it curls perfectly at the end. It just does it, anytime, without me putting any effort into it. Mom had to photoshop this picture a little so my tail was more defined.

Jack is demonstrating two great attributes while snoozing. See that nice, soft, warm tummy? It does have a tumor, but if he sleeps right, it doesn't seem to hurt him.

And those toes... Both of us have pink pads. But see the tip of Jack's paw? French manicure, just like Maui over at Katnip Lounge. Mom loves those toes very, very much.

"Mom"cat Monday?

Mom is taking over my Mancat Monday. I decided she could, just this once.

But I had to give her the laser demon eyes first.

Even though I'm an old softie and I love her.

Mom wanted to ~~show off~~ put up the pictures of her body transformation. She has been in the process for a couple of months now, working out hard 6 days a week, and following a special diet.

Looking good from the front, Mom.

Back is good, too! That crazy diet and jumping up and down you do is even smoothing out your skin.

Okay, Mom, we get it. Now go off and be a sexy beast elsewhere.

Mom also wants to share that she lost a very dear kitty friend, who is now over The Rainbow Bridge.

That's Mama Kitty and her mom Allison. My mom lived with them for a few years in Oakland, California. She was best friends with Mama Kitty and the only bean who loved her more than her mom. Live happily over The Bridge, Mama Kitty.

Where's Jack?

Quick hint: I'm not in my happy place.

I'm at the vet...again. I was up all night with some throw up and a few squirts. Mom was all concerned, and worried I would get all dried up. (Nice touch at the vet's: new cushy mats on the tables).

The vet and the tech were all looking at me and sticking stuff up my butt and so forth. Then Mom brilliantly remembered she had given me a little steak last night. Yes, Mom, you are why I am here. Bad Mommy...but you know I love you anyway. The steak was tasty, but never again. Now I have to take an anti-flaming thing and a pro-bitey-tic thing to get me all normal again.

Come on. I'm back in my carrier now. Let's go home.

Thursday in the Garden

I'm being zen in the shade of the (hot) garden.

Oh, hey, Mom!

Yes, I can give a little tour of what's in the garden. First, I have to explain that my mom doesn't plant or own this garden. She just keeps it watered and clean. Our apartment opens on to it, but the upstairs landlady is the homeowner. That's why it may be a little boring in variety. But here goes.

There's a few of these in planters.

And, of course, hostas. They grow easy, and come up on their own every year.

There's a tree (maple?) growing over in this corner, but it's not intentional. A seed came over the fence and started it, I think. Probably from those introoder squirrels.

This is a big bush Jack will sometimes lay under and it gets these flowers....just maybe a couple of them. Mom knocked one off watering. She better just settle down.

Here's the rose bush the landlady got for Mother's Day. It has yellow roses, ahem, had. It was dying from lack of water until the landlord told Mom he hadn't been watering. He was shy-ish about coming through our place to get to the garden. That's why Mom hoses everything off now.

This corner by the rose bush has some ivy, and, you guessed it! More hostas.

See?

(Update on Jack: He went to the vet for them to take bloods out yesterday. They were checking his electrolytes. Everything is looking just great with him. The doctor said everyone is amazed that a cat with a big old tumor just keeps happily going along.)

I am the Baby Beast of the Night! I prowl, I flush out introoders, I hide in the deepest shadows.

Then I run in the house, and I look at Mom, all big-eyed. She says, "You go, wild girl!"

I love dashing in out of the house. But then later I have to hunt down all the buggies that snuck in while I was out in the darkness. (Sometimes Mom helps. She whacks 'em hard! Is she having fun, too? Maybe not.....she has mentioned that the night forays are going to end due to the insect traffic.)

But I shall always be a Wild Creature when I am out in the dark at night.

It's been raining and storming a lot this week, so I've been staying in my box, near Mom.
She got me this new 'nip toy, called a ravioli, because she thinks the kitty on it is cute like me.

I keep my new toy in my box.

Jack here. I have issues with my health, as everyone knows. See how I walk on my front paws these days? All broken down. I can walk places, but I'm not as quick and able to maneuver as I used to be.

I am able to scoot away from Mom fast when it's medicine time, and I dive under the ends of the bed. (As you can see, most of the bed is too low to get under.) But then Mom was smelling that I was peeing there. She was ready to strangle me, but after some cursing, she cleaned up the rug and got some control over the pee smell. Sorry, Mom.

Then, you know what she did? She blocked my access to the hiding spots with boxes.

Both ends of the bed are no longer accessible.

I also can't wedge myself into the corner by the bike and pee on that rug. Blocked!

You still love me though, Mom, right? Of course she does.

Our mom wanted to show the cats who came before, too. She had these cats in the 90's, so it was a while back.
This is Mouse. She was shy and hid from everyone but Mom. She lived outside for a long time until Mom made her come in. Mom says she was an angel because she came along when Mom really needed a pet and was looking to get a dog (of all things!), not knowing she was really a cat person. Mouse showed up as a stray and Mom's mom fed her a few days, then asked our mom if she wanted to keep her. Mouse was very loving and had a huge, loud purr.

This is Grey. He was also a stray, and came with that left ear flat like that. Grey was a very relaxed cat and loved to help out with anything going on in the house. This is a picture of him snoopervising the building of the house addition. Mom calls this shot "chairman of the board".

I'm so happy warm days are here. The sun beckons. First thing to do, sunbathe, cat style.

Tuesday with Mom

I love to hang out with Mom. She says I'm the perfect little size for her lap, and I'm so light that I feel very nice and oh so precious. She was texting her friend and he asked what she was doing. So she took a picture with the talk-into flashy box and sent it to him. We did lap cuddles for a lot of the day.

Mom made steak. Yum! She shared some. I kept tapping her arm gently with my paw for more, and she couldn't resist me. But I gulped down too much and I got sick. Uh-oh. I guess next time I'll only get a little bit.
Jack didn't do much today, but he took a picture with Mom. Some days he just wants to sleep and eat. He's still doing well and seems contented. We both love days like today, when Mom's around a lot and can cater to our needs. That's how we cats like it.

The warm weather is here, and we like to go out in our backyard. Mom did something really nice for us so we can, safely.

The landlady got the backyard cleaned up (thanks!). That green tarp is covering some back machine thing that the landlord uses, and there's no room in the house for it. Now, the nice thing Mom did is almost impossible to see in this picture.

Okay, closer up now, see that black mesh? Mom stapled up yards of it in the hot sun, tangling herself up in impossible angles sometimes to get around plants and to cover holes. Holes, you may ask? Yes, spaces, actually. This type of fence settles and big gaps separate between the wood slats and under the fence. Boards get all loose and hammering them back in place only lasts a little while. Before, Mom had blocked up spaces with some old drywall a workman left behind, but she had to find a more attractive and better way. I'm little and never even realized when I was slipping over to the outside world!

I knew when I had found a place to escape to the big outside, but then I always freaked and hid under the next door neighbor's deck. Way under. Staring out at Mom, knowing she couldn't get at me. Now Baby and I are so happy because we can go in and out all the time and Mom doesn't worry.

Mancat Monday

Just finished doing my business in the bathroom.

Now napping on the bed with Baby (she's nice and warm).

I'm hiding under the bed because I heard Mom getting the food ready. That means I'm gonna get a shot and pills down my throat.

This is where Jack and I stay when Mom works out to her DVD's, out of the way of all that moving about. Mom is done (flashy box time again) and Jack is already off the bed.

I hear him, though, doing something he shouldn't be doing.

Yep, he's peeing on the newspapers instead of in the box. Mom caught you on film, Jack.

Now I hear him on the other side of the bed. Time to go down his "stairs" and check it out.

This step makes a good perch.

Jack is refueling for future peeing.

Here's a view from the other side. See the toys under the chair? Those are Jack's, but he never carries them around anymore. Mom leaves them there just in case he decides to be a kitten one day again.....

That's pretty much what Jack does with a lot of his day.

I particularly love my white sock on this paw (as does my mom) because it defines my toes very well.

I have a nice white sock on my other paw, too. Don't my whiskers look funny in this picture? I think it's kinda fancy how my paws are reflected in my water dish.

Baby has pink toes on her tiny paws.

She keeps her toes clean.

My tail is tabby-striped and very black at the tip.

This is my tummy. It's kinda swolled on account of my diseases, but I get around okay.

Shabby Chic

Milo and Alfie (http://milocat.wordpress.com/) came up with the idea about the shabby chic we have designed in our homes. We personally don't know if our mom appreciates our efforts, but we have really taken over most of the interior decorating in our apartment.

We don't have claws (the first lady who kept us had them removed) so scratching is not part of our methodology. Nonetheless, we find ways to make our home look comfortable and lived in.

This chair demonstrates some of my work. First, it is covered with cat padding for comfort. At the top of the chair, I have added lots of hair and bomit stains.

Here's a closer look at the bomit stains.

And, of course, I have my simple boxes in various places. I do not believe fancy is necessary.

Here I have added a box to the desk.

This is some more of the padding we have for comfort and staining. There is no need to see the real furniture.

Jack is into newspapers and old towels. The buffet and water area is set up for the collection of spills and food crumbs.

Newspapers are also down because Jack's renal problems cause him to pee where he shouldn't. But that just adds character, doesn't it? Also, you can see here that the fancy bedspread is covered by simpler, cozier layers of blankets, soft for sleeping, and useful in case of incontinence.

Here's some more papers. These are in the bathroom. Jack also likes that these give Mom reading material while she uses the facilities.

Sacks of papers make decent enough decorations too, don't they?

I found some sun in the backyard! Spring is finally ready to start, I think.

The heat feels so good, and the leaves (that Mom never raked up) make a soft bed.

That was nice, but the air still has some chill. I think I'll head in to the bed.

Mom's Visit to Delaware

Mom was in Delaware for a couple of days visiting her niece Marilyn. We've met Marilyn, and we think she is just great. This is the salon where she cuts hair in Berlin, Maryland.

Marilyn and her husband Brandon have 2 dogs and a cat, Dexter, Sylar, and Bowie.

Bowie can be such a nerd!

He is ever vigilant, guarding his house and people.

Dexter is being very patient, submitting to belly cuddles.

But not for long! Ha ha!

(We were good while Mom was gone, but we are so glad she is back now.)

2nd Bestest Box Ever

I already have one box that is just my size, and it is my 1st bestest box ever. But now I have this 2nd one. Here I am checking it out after rescuing it from going to recycle.

It's just right!

I can settle in, but still peer out to survey my dominion.

There's enough room for grooming in here.

See how nicely I fit? This box will help me hold in my body heat while I snooze.

See what Mom did? She changed the name of the box from BEACHBODY to BEACHBABY. Thanks, Mom. (I don't even know what a beach is.)

You know what's extra awesome? My 2nd bestest box is inside of a cubby.

(Mom is going out of town to visit her niece until Sunday, so she won't be blogging for a few days. We are staying home, with our petsitter coming to see us.)

Oh, hi! Guess what? We had to go to the vet Monday. Baby was due for her checkup, and I needed to be evaluated again for my various conditions.

That vet was a really nice guy. He said I was cute and kissed my head! It's okay if a man gives a mancat a little affection.

The vet said I was really cute, too, of course. He squeezed me a lot to feel if my insides were okay. He squeezed some poop out of me! I am perfectly healthy and I didn't have to have sticky pointy things stuck into me.

The vet said I am amazingly well for all that I have going on. He said my cancer is moving so slowly that I might live with it for years. Really! The hardest part of my health to manage is my diabetes.

We were glad for our good vet report, but it sure was good to be back home for naps.

Sometimes the flashy box is okay and Jack and I will pose. Here I was hoping for a treat off Mom's plate and trying to be inconspicuous.

Mom said she could feel me staring. I adjusted my pose to be more bright-eyed.

At this point, my pose suggests that I'm fully ready for a treat. Mom has been looking over at me a lot.

And I got a little treat!

Later, Jack and I agreed to pose together on the bed before a nap.

Mom really had that flashy box going, and after much posing, we abandoned the bed napping idea and went off to our separate nap places.

After a little nap, one more pose. Hopefully that will satisfy Mom for a few days.

I love my tongue! Not only does it taste my yummy food, it helps me do stuff.

I'm on my way inside from a nighttime prowl around the yard. I hear Mom doing something of interest to me.

She's brought new cans of food and is sorting them! I love my cans and I show it by rubbing some pheromones on them.

I'm sniffing hard, but I only smell metal. I wonder what flavor this is...

Oops, I knocked them over. Mom won't be mad though. She's just glad I'm feeling so good today.

Weller Wednesday

I'm home from the emergency v-e-t!

When I got home and out of my carrier, you know what I wanted? Food and lots of water! Right away! You know what? I didn't get any. Mom said the v-e-t people told her to hold it from me for a while because I would be anxious and I'd gobble and gulp a whole bunch and throw up. (I did have some limited amounts of food and water at the v-e-t, in that cage, with a doggy below me.)

But eventually I did get my food and water. Mom is so pleased that I have bright eyes, can move better again, and I'm "all there". They didn't do anything special to me at Hope Center (well, poked me and squished pee out of me and took my bloods), so I guess I just needed some time to rally. I'm tough. Just when you think I'm down for good - bam! Back I come. Right now I am on the bed sinking into a nice snooze. Thanks everyone for purrayers again! They sure are powerful. Keep sending them to all the beans and doggies and kitties and other animals in Christchurch, too.

Jack Needs Extra Purrayers Today

I started kinda feeling bad last night. I had to pee so much without drinking even that much water! Walking was hard, I couldn't get settled in any one place for very long, and sometimes I just felt confused. Whenever Mom came close to ask me softly how I was, I meowed and meowed. She gave me a painkiller, but it didn't help really.

Mom had a hard decision to make, she told me. She said she was really worried I'd get bad hurts and bad, bad sick while she was at work. Yet, she didn't want to put me through unnecessary hauling around, pokie things, people squishing me and all those other things they do. Finally, she decided I needed some looking at and needed to be where I could get care right away if icky bad things happened. So off I went to the emergency department at Hope Center again.

I hope I can come home tonight and be well again.

Gotcha Day! Three-year Anniversary

Actually, it was officially yesterday.

But Mom forgot. We had to remind her.

Thanks, Mom for getting us out of the cage at Petsmart where we had to live for so long. Nobody wanted older cats. Nobody wanted us because Baby was scared and acted feral and growled viciously. But you believed in us and took us home, together, as we'd always been. And even though your beanDad said he wouldn't adopt a cat like Baby, you knew she just needed time and love and security to turn into the sweetheart that she really is. We love our furrever home.

Update on Mom's Bite

So, Mom went to the human vet about the bitey spot.

The human vet said it looks like a fungal infection is there.

Mom got prescriptions to get special medicines at the pharmacy. Something strong for the fungus, and an antibiotic in case there's other bugs living in that bitey spot.

At the human vet's, she got a tetanus shot. She has a very sore arm. But she still loves me lots. I promise I'll try so hard to keep from putting the bitey on her ever again.

Mr. Bitey

Sometimes, well, if I get touched wrong, or messed with too much, I bite. And once in a while I bite really hard.

I bit Mom's wrist about 2 months ago, and you can see that the bitey part is healed, but there is a rashy thing there now. It won't go away. Mom kept thinking it would. But it won't. So today she is seeing the doctor.

I'm sorry, Mom. My Mr. Bitey personality is a reflex thing. I'll try to give you better warning in the future.

(Jack's mom here: I know about Jack's biting. Usually I handle him in such a way that it doesn't happen. Or I heed his growly or light bite warnings. He's not a bad cat. Just sensitive.)
